He keeps casting new barriers each time Lahabrea destroys them, tweaking things here and there to make up for prior failures, and obviously putting quite a bit of effort into understanding what worked and what doesn't. It might not be giant leaps, but each barrier does show improvement ]

You improve. Slowly, but steadily. More of this and you will get there. But that is enough for now. Replenishing mana is one thing, but mental reserves are another. Reflecting on what you've learned in practice will give you greater improvement next we try.

This is a good chance to work on your aetheric senses in any case. It will help later if you can work out just from looking and feeling it out some of the principles I used to summon this. Dismantling a barrier is easier if you can unmake it rather than destroy it, after all.

That's not bad advice.

It's intricate but still if Five has any sense of how he constructed his own barrier, and how the aetherial structure felt, then he may be able to pick up a similarity here and there, some starting point.]

It is under normal circumstances, and with Taisho's ability even more so. There isn't much I could pick up, but the way you shaped the aether was ... well. Certainly more advanced than I did.

I should hope so. Pay attention to your own spells, see what you can make out when you cast. Knowing already how you did it, it'll help you form an understanding of how it feels. Even at a less advanced level the principles are the same.

And as you assume your senses to aether you'll have a better chance with conjury.

It's just a different sense. You trust your eyes and ears do you not? Your skin when it tells you something is hot or cold. You're simply exercising a different way of processing things. Simply because it feels more like unscientific intuition to you does not make it so.

I suppose it's not that difficult from my own powers - they seem natural to me, but to others, they're essentially magic.

Let's just say it's been a while since I had to learn something like that all over again. Which reminds me.

How surprising of you to acknowledge. What would you like to know? I was an academic. I taught, I researched. I oversaw my students and Phantomology studies in the Anyder. I was Speaker of our Convocation, which made me more or less a glorified babysitter of brilliant and sometimes very long-winded individuals.

I'm arrogant, but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge other people's skills. Emet-Selch has been an excellent teacher too — but don't tell him, the last thing I want is for him to get insufferable about it.

I think I'd just like to hear about your life as an academic. I do know about the Convocation already.
