My squicks are all visual, and there's nothing text-wise that really bothers me. If games/posts contain pictures of insects or particularly visual gores (especially innards) I'd appreciate that being linked rather than embed, but that's about it. Also: Five is an adult so any adult themses around him are fine and he won't care, but no sexual comments/content/whatever TOWARD him pls (exception only for adult body journal homicidalrage)
DETAILS ON VANYA'S BOOK The title is "Extra-Ordinary: My Life as Number 7"
This book was written by Five's sister. It details the neglect and abuse they suffered at the hands of their father and does not depict him, nor the rest of the Hargreeves, in a favorable light at all. The autobiography details all of the Hargreeves siblings' powers and their personalities, and their flaws and shortcomings are all very much in display there.
Some of what's written there, from caps from the show:
Not a lot is actually readable but what I can see:
"[...]meals, because the one time of day to be together - and I meet them with equal parts [...] and dread. Would today be the day I managed to stand up to Diego's taunts? Maybe I'd show Five the piece I've been working on for a week.
Though prone to arrogance and outburst more than the average preteen, Five was my sole [confidant?] the years before he disappeared. Seemed [...]"
The rest I can't make out but it seems to go on about how unlike their other siblings, Five was immune to their father's manipulation. From this book it's pretty clear that the two of them were actually close, but Five disappearing left Vanya alone again. In the show Vanya also goes out of her way to mention that after Five's disappearance, she kept leaving sandwiches with peanut butter and marshmallows all around the house because she was scared Five would come back, but leave again because he was hungry. I am going to assume this bit IS in the book, because the first thing Five does when he's back is eat one such sandwich.
"One morning, I....the gills with clothes...behind, I think I even brought....nightmares from home following me wherever....bus stop, and I sat there all day long - and.....the best time since...completely alone. I had thought I was alone my entire life, but this was something new and entirely different. I was afraid of what I...and would choose....down our street. Buses....but I waved the kind drivers away. That night I walked back through the front doors, and no one knew I had even left in the first place. I wonder how long it would have taken them to notice - an extra girl they never needed was...difference. To this day I'm not sure. The next time that...was when we all did. After what happened to....
Our everyday existence was full of evidence that Dad had...pped into as his experiment...Not children...animals. And what happened to Ben was...shattered the illusion for the others....I....knew all along what they realized that day. I didn't...leave on my own. It wasn't until Allison....Hollywood and Diego cursed out the old man....we were ultimately a broken family...that my family would accept me into the fold....as long as there was a club to belong to. One day....notice me and invited me to....Everyone would...Vanya, we can't believe we've wasted so much time....you're our sister, after all.
...but it was then that I realized....nothing for me to aspire to be anymore. It was liberating...life that I had wanted for as long as I could remember...finally fallen apart. Without the Umbrella Academy....the freedom to be whomever I chose. Suddenly my violin playing wasn't stupid - it was something that made me special."
For my sake, since i'm 80% sure we'll get details of Ben's death on Season 2, in the copy Valour got the pages where it's mentioned what happened are ripped out from the book and not available.
For reference on personalities and powers, here are wiki pages for each sibling (Note: Wikia says they were numbered in order of usefulness - that's speculation, not canon. It has not been confirmed in canon what the numbers stand for, so that's definitely not gonna be in the book)
